Where Sin Is Conceived

Romans 7:13-25

It is in man's heart — his innermost being — where sin is conceived. It was in Satan's heart that sin originated. His “heart” was lifted up because of his beauty (Ezekiel 28:17). It was in his “heart” he exalted himself above God (Isaiah 14:13-14). The sin of Ananias and Sapphira originated in the heart (Acts 5:3).

The Greek word for heart is kardia, which includes man's entire mental and moral activity — the inner man. It is recognized as the place where the emotions, desires, perceptions, thoughts, understanding, reasoning powers, conscience, intentions, the will, and imagination reside.

What is in a man's heart and mind determines what he is. “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7). In this verse, we see that the word “heart” is used to refer to the place where man's thoughts originate.

Because the heart and mind are so closely related, we must also look at what God's Word says concerning our minds to have a clear understanding of this battlefield. The Greek word used to refer to the mind is nous, which is used to describe the mental functions of perception, understanding, knowing, feeling, judging, and determining. The mind is comprised of the will, emotions, thoughts, and imagination.

Our minds are Satan's major point of attack and it is here where the war must be fought and won. It is in your mind where Satan is unleashing his all-out war. The war we are fighting is not against flesh and blood. It is not a mental battle fought through the power of positive thinking, “head knowledge,” psychological techniques, or our limited mental abilities. It is a spiritual battle in our minds, which must be fought and won by the power of the Holy Spirit working within us!

All of the strategies Satan has developed and is using against us today are directed toward our minds. Satan doesn't want Christians to have a free, clean, healthy, renewed, victorious mind. His strategy is to attack and corrupt your mind, to hinder you from being transformed into Christ's image, to prevent you from living your life in victory. His strategy is to bombard your mind with fiery darts of unbelief, fear, worry, confusion, temptation, depression, oppression, and deception. He will try to fill your mind with evil desires and lusts of the flesh. He will try to fill your mind so full of the cares of this world and yourself, that you will have no time for Christ and the Word.

Satan is going to do everything within his power to fill your mind with anxiety, fear, defeat, and discouragement concerning the circumstances in your life until your mind is so weakened that you become depressed — frustrated and filled with a sense of hopelessness and despair. But Satan's power over your mind has been broken!

Make this declaration:

Satan, your power is being broken over my mind. Frustration, hopelessness, despair, and depression will go in the Name of Jesus.
